About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Underwriter to join our team. The Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating and assessing risks to determine approval or denial of loan applications.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze pertinent underwriting information to complete a high-level risk assessment.
- Interpret quote specifications, Underwriting guidelines, contract provisions, commission, special arrangements, client segments and product offering to determine plan design.
- Complete the new business quoting process using the underwriting software system and input the required information into the pricing software.
- Determine appropriate volume calculation method and commission schedule, document deviations to the plan design, and generate draft proposals.
- Balance reports to premium, claims and reserve totals to ensure accuracy of renewal information.
- Analyze self-reporting renewal data to ensure all required information has been provided.
- Process new sales (groups and accounts) once approved by the underwriter, within service standards.
- Administration activities including mail distribution, filing, and preparation of files for offsite storage.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- One (1) year of general group insurance experience.
- One to two (1-2) years of successful office experience preferred.
- Completion of some post-secondary education in Business/Commerce or similar.
- Working toward GBA, CEBS, HIAA, ACS or other related industry designation.
- Knowledge of group benefits processes and concepts including risk factors, underwriting guideline interpretation, and policy contracts.
Requirements:
- Completion of the In-depth Tax Program or an MTax degree.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
- Profound knowledge of tax legislation, corporate, personal, and trust tax planning and compliance.
- Leadership skills to manage a team, delegate tasks, and ensure timely deliverables.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in domestic tax compliance, tax reorganization, and experience with cross-border and international tax regulations.
